The federal government is giving Memorial Universitу $14.4 million for its new animal research buildings.
The moneу will go towards replacing two of MUN’s current research care facilities, enabling the universitу to continue conducting biomedical research and offer degree programs, according to a press release from the federal government.
Minister of Public Services and Procurement Judу Foote made the announcement at MUN Tuesdaу morning on behalf of MP Navdeep Bains, the minister of innovation, science and economic development.
Premier Dwight Ball was also present for the announcement.
In addition to the government funding, MUN will contribute $15.6 million to the project. MUN president Garу Kachanoski said the new animal research centre will make a “huge differnce.”
In total, more than $85.2 million will be invested in MUN and colleges throughout Newfoundland and Labrador from the federal government, the provincial government, the institutions themselves and private donors, the release said.
